Classified Advertising

To place a Classified ad, click here. The Johnson City Press reserves the right to reject or edit any copy submitted. Classified line ads require three lines minimum.

The Johnson City Press does not accept advertising for massage parlors, escort or dating services, abortion clinics, fortune tellers, lotteries and bingo. In addition, ads requesting advanced payment or deposits are not accepted. Singles clubs ads must be submitted for prior approval. Please check your ad for accuracy the first day it appears. The Johnson City Press will only be responsible for the first day's insertion. People in business and business briefs are published as space permits. Information can be accepted only in writing, and every news release must include a contact number.

The deadline each week is noon Thursday.

People in business is for annual awards, promotions, job changes, special designations, appointments or election to professional organizations and retirements after 25 years or more with the same company. Clearly labeled photos of individuals are accepted and may be picked up within 30 days of publication during regular business. After 30 days, photos will be discarded. The Press cannot be held responsible for lost or damaged photographs. Please do not submit a photo that cannot be replaced. Business briefs are for new businesses opened within the last 90 days, new products or additions to a product line, office or company location changes, acquisitions, mergers or news of special interest. Photos cannot be used with business briefs.

To submit an announcement for consideration, bring the item to the newspaper offices, 204 W. Main St., Johnson City, Tenn., or mail it to the Johnson City Press, Attention: Business Desk, P.O. Box 1717, Johnson City, Tenn. 37605-1717. News releases can be sent also by fax, to 423-929-7484, or by email to Assistant News Editor Nathan Baker at nbaker@johnsoncitypress.com.


Entertainment briefs appear one time only in the Johnson City Press as space permits.

To have an entertainment brief included in a daily edition of the Johnson City Press, send the time, day and date of the event, along with any admission prices and a contact telephone number to: Johnson City Press, Attention: Entertainment Writer, 204 W. Main St., Johnson City, TN 37605-1717.

If you have a listing for Things to Do, send information to Things to Do, Entertainment Writer, Johnson City Press, P.O. Box 1717, Johnson City, TN 37605-1717. Listings must be submitted to the Press office by 5 p.m. Wednesday for publication each Friday. If possible, please include a telephone number. Due to the large number of events, we cannot accept phone calls.

The Johnson City Press frequently includes photographs of bands, dance groups, concert performers, theatrical ensembles, artwork, etc., along with information about their upcoming performances or exhibits. These may also be submitted to Johnson City Press, Attention: Entertainment Writer, 204 W. Main St., Johnson City, TN 37605-1717.

Letters to the Editor

The Johnson City Press welcomes and publishes letters to the editor, provided writers sign their names and addresses and limit letters to 300 words. One letter per writer will be used in the newspaper in a four-week period. The Johnson City Press reserves the right to edit all letters.

Letters may be submitted to Robert Houk, Opinion Page Editor, by email at mailbag@johnsoncitypress.com, provided the sender includes their name, address and telephone number. Please do not send letters via email that are typed in all capital letters.

All letters to the editor are used on a first-come, first-served basis, and the Johnson City Press cannot guarantee what day letters will appear in the newspaper.


The deadline for Tempo briefs is one week before the date of the event. Briefs must be submitted in writing and must include the name of the event, the location, time, date and a number to contact for more information. Briefs are published as space permits; incomplete briefs will not be published. Briefs run on a one-time-only basis.

Standing and one-time Calendar of Events entries also must be submitted in writing. Calendar of Events runs in the Sunday's Tempo section only. Classes, another Sunday listing, is a look at classes meeting in the area. It does not include classes that are arts-and-entertainment related — those can be found in the Entertainment section on Friday under Things To Do.

Obituaries are a paid service of the Johnson City Press. To submit an obituary for publication, please contact the arranging funeral home. For more information, call the Johnson City Press Classified Advertising department at 423-722-0509.


Religion news is published in the Saturday edition of the Johnson City Press. While efforts will be made to accommodate requests to publish briefs on specific dates, space considerations prevent being able to make guarantees of such requests.

Church news items run on a one-time-only basis. Items for the religion news section may be mailed to Church News, Johnson City Press, P.O. Box 1717, Johnson City, TN. 37605. These items should be typed or written legibly. They may also be faxed to 423-929-7484, attn: Church News. Religion items may be emailed to faith@johnsoncitypress.com or to rpierce@johnsoncitypress.com.

Photos will also be considered for publication depending on the availablility of space and reproduction quality of the photo. Photos are accepted by regular mail or email (in .jpg format.) Please do not fax photos.

All items should include the full name and address of the church or organization involved in the event. Items concerning charity events, such as a singing for a sick person or to help a needy family will be accepted in church news. However, items concerning church fundraising events, such as breakfasts, suppers, yard sales, car washes, etc., should being directed to the Tempo Department.
