Boone wins Little League state softball title

Daniel Boone Little League softball made it to the World Series last year, and the team took the first major step toward getting back.

The 11-12 year-old All-Stars defeated Clarksville 5-3 in the state championship game Sunday night in Charlotte, Tennessee.

Boone earned a berth in the Southeast Region tournament, which begins July 25 in Warner Robbins, Georgia.

Boone went 4-0 in the state tournament, beating Clarksville 4-1, Smith County 12-1, and Smoky Mountain 10-0, before meeting Clarksville again.

Josie Jenkins went 3 for 3 in the title game with an RBI. Ava Saul had two hits and two RBIs while Riley Croley had two hits and an RBI.

In the circle, Kayleigh Musser and Katie Sparks each pitched three innings. Musser got the win and Sparks earned the save.

In the 4-1 win over Clarksville, Croley had three hits and Saul totaled two RBIs. In the win over Smith County, Croley had three hits, Saul had three RBIs, and Jenkins totaled two RBIs.

In the win over Smoky Mountain, Saul went 4 for 4, Kyleigh Bacon totaled three RBIs, and Jenkins had two RBIs. Sparks also had two RBIs.
