RICHMOND, VA - “Don”, age 83, of Richmond, VA, formerly of Johnson City, TN, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 24, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Douglas G. Nicholson (ETSU, Chairman of Chemistry Dept. ‘59-’74) & wife Helen Gurney Nicholson; his beloved wife of 57 years Lucretia "Lue" Anne Waddell, first-born child, Lisa Carol; and sister Beatrice “Bea” Saylor.
Don earned the rank of Eagle Scout from Troop 65 (Pittsburgh, PA), in 1951. He graduated from Science Hill High School (1954) and attended ETSU until activated by the military where he served for 12 years (1955-1967) in the US Army with the first two years active duty as a Medic in Korea. He worked as a pharmaceutical rep at Warren-Teed Pharmaceutical (becoming Pfizer) for 33 years and then went on to work for Winn Transportation for more than 20 years.
He is survived by three children, D. Douglas, Jr. (Debra), Susan Kelleher (Doug), and John (Diane); six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sisters in-law Patricia Waddell Hill (Jimmy), Johnson City, TN and Katherine “Kathy” Waddell Bulaski, Roanoke, VA and many loved nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was held at Signal Hill Memorial Park, Hanover, VA on Thursday, October 31, 2019.
