Scouting for Food to occur this weekend

Press Staff Report • Nov 17, 2015 at 3:51 PM

Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in the Washington County area will participate in Scouting for Food this weekend, picking up canned food in the morning from homes in the Johnson City area, with around 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. being the busiest times.

Last weekend, the troops visited local houses and placed plastic bags on the doorknobs. This weekend, the scouts will pick up the canned food that residents have placed in the bags.

Some of the canned food items will be brought to the new Food City at 920 N. State of Franklin Road, and others will be bought directly to the Jonesborough Area Ministerial Association and other charitable organizations in the surrounding area.

Two trucks — one from Haven of Mercy Rescue Mission and the other from Good Samaritan Ministries — will be parked in front of Food City starting at 9:30 a.m. As the food comes in, the canned items will be equally distributed to both organizations.

Anybody who didn’t get a bag last weekend and would like to contribute canned food items, can place their contributions in a box located at one of the area Food City establishments.
