A pilot who survived when his helicopter went down in New York City’s East River, killing five passengers, said in an emergency radio transmission that the aircraft’s engine had failed.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office received notification of the incident at 12:38 p.m. EMS was called to the scene, with preliminary reports saying there were no injuries.
LifeFlight officials say they were contacted shortly after 11 a.m. to send medical evacuation helicopters to the scene of the crash on post.
