Accused car thief extradited from Florida: A man accused of stealing three vehicles in Johnson City in May and June was arrested Wednesday after his extradition from Florida. Lloyd M. Matthews, 35, 234 Defriece Private Drive, Bristol, was charged with three counts of auto theft and one count each of identity theft and fraudulent use of a credit card. Police said the thefts took place between May 14 and June 15. Police said a 2018 rental Toyota Camry was found for sale on Craigslist. The vehicle was recovered by investigators, after learning it had been reported stolen by Enterprise Rental cars. The investigation led to Matthews as a suspect. Matthews also was charged with stealing an acquaintance’s 2006 Nissan Titan on June 10. That vehicle was recovered with heavy damage the next day in a field off of Dry Creek Road. On June 15, a man left the keys in ignition of his 2000 Audi 41Q as he entered the Roadrunner, 1310 Cherokee Road, and it was stolen. Police identified Matthews using surveillance video from the store. The Audi was found burned on Free Hill Road on June 16. Matthews was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center under $17,500 bond awaiting a Sessions Court hearing set for Thursday.
Felon found at west Johnson City motel: Police filed charges twice on Tuesday against a wanted felon Tuesday after finding him at a Johnson City motel. William S. Necessary, 27, 510 Burkley Court, was wanted on a motor vehicle theft charge resulting from a June 1 report. Police said the victim let Necessary borrow his vehicle, but would not return it. That same day, police found the vehicle abandoned at 508 E. Watauga Ave. and returned it to the victim. On Tuesday, police were conducting extra patrol at the 11E Motel, 3500 W. Market St., when they spotted a vehicle Necessary was believed to be traveling in. Necessary tried to run from the vehicle but was arrested. Searching the vehicle, police saw a baggie containing methamphetamine, and during a search they found a loaded pistol magazine and shotgun in the trunk. Necessary is a convicted felon for the crimes of robbery and aggravated burglary. In addition to theft over $1,000 from the motor vehicle theft, he was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, simple possession of methamphetamine, unlawful drug paraphernalia. According to the Washington County Detention Center, he also had charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and reckless endangerment. He was jailed in the Detention Center under $70,000 bond and arraigned later Tuesday in Sessions Court.
