UPDATE:

A surveillance video assisted authorities in identifying two people accused of severely beating and robbing a man – who apparently used a wheelchair to get around — found unconscious in Gray in August.

Billy Riley, 61, 602 University Parkway, and April Guinn, 26, whose last known address was at a mobile home park on South Roan Street, were each charged with aggravated assault and aggravated robbery.

In a news release, Sheriff Ed Graybeal reported that deputies found the man in the office complex parking lot at 6124 Kingsport Highway on Aug. 11.

The man had suffered head injuries, having been kicked multiple times on the head by a man, while a woman took money from his pockets, police said.

Investigators later identified Riley and Guinn.

Riley was arrested Aug. 28. He remained in the Washington County Detention Center under $150,000 bond. With the help of Johnson City police, Guinn was arrested Sunday and jailed in the Detention Center awaiting a Sessions Court appearance set for Monday.

Officers were dispatched to the scene after witnesses had gone to the business to check their schedule and saw a man on the ground. Beside him was a wheelchair in two pieces, according to a court record. The officers noticed a surveillance camera at the business that was pointing in the man’s general direction.

After officers obtained the video, it showed a silver SUV pulling into the parking lot. The driver got out, pulled the man out of the vehicle and threw him face down onto the pavement.

According to the court affidavit, the driver stepped on the man’s head while the other passenger appeared to be going through his pockets.

The driver went to the back of the SUV and pulled out a wheelchair and tossed it onto the ground in two pieces. The driver then went back over to the man and stomped on his head seven or eight times before the two left.

Investigators checked with the victim’s bank and discovered he had been to there the same day as the attack and withdrew $50, and they were in a vehicle matching the description as the silver SUV.

Riley and Guinn were arraigned in Washington County Sessions Court and were rescheduled for a hearing Wednesday.

Graybeal said the investigation was ongoing with more charges pending.
