Johnson City woman seriously injured in wrong-way crash on I-26

KINGSPORT — A Johnson City woman was seriously injured early Sunday morning when her vehicle was a struck by another vehicle traveling the wrong way on Interstate 26.

According to the Kingsport Police Department, Margaret C. Buck, 47, was traveling westbound in her 2008 Honda Accord near the Rock Springs Road exit about 5:15 a.m. when she collided head-on with a 2005 Mercedes C230 being eastbound in the westbound lanes by Zachary D. Hunt, 23, Unicoi. Police said Hunt suffered non-incapacitating injuries in the crash while Buck’s injuries were described as incapacitating.

The westbound lanes of I-26 were closed for more than three hours to allow for treatment and transportation of the injured along with an investigation of the crash by the KPD’s Traffic Unit and removal of the vehicles and debris, police said.

The KPD said charges are pending.
