UPDATE: Sheriff: Hunter shooting was road rage

ELIZABETHTON — One man was shot twice during an apparent road rage incident in the Hunter community of Stoney Creek shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday.

“The two men were both southbound on Tenn. Highway 91 and stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of Rufus Taylor Road and Broad Street Extension, Sheriff Dexter Lunceford said. At least one of the men got out of his vehicle and was shot. The names of the men were not yet available.

“He then got into his vehicle and drove himself to Sycamore Shoals Hospital,” Lunceford said.

Lunceford said the other man is currently being held by the Carter County Sheriff’s Department and is being questioned. No charges have been placed at this time.

At least one person has been shot in Carter County, according to authorities.

Carter County Sheriff’s Department public information officer Thomas Gray said one person was taken to Sycamore Shoals Hospital for treatment for a gunshot from near the intersection of Rufus Taylor Road and state Route 91, in the Stoney Creek community. He was then taken to the Johnson City Medical Center.

Gray said central dispatch received an emergency call about the shooting shortly before 1 p.m.
