ELIZABETHTON — One man was shot twice during an apparent road rage incident in the Hunter community of Stoney Creek shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies from the Carter County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene at the intersection of Rufus Taylor Road and Tenn. Highway 91. Investigators determined 26-year-old Maison Jeremiah Little exited his vehicle at the traffic light and punched 24-year-old Coen Shaw Powell in the face. Powell drew a pistol and fired at Little, hitting him at least twice.

“The two men were both southbound on Tenn. Highway 91 and stopped at the traffic light,” Sheriff Dexter Lunceford said.

Powell was taken to the sheriff’s office for questioning. Little transported himself to a hospital for treatment. Public Information Officer Thomas Gray said Little first went to Sycamore Shoals Hospital and was later transported to Johnson City Medical Center.

The sheriff’s department said no charges had been filed as of Thursday night.
