Standoff with armed man: Police said a man fired a shot inside his King Springs Road apartment Saturday while he was under the influence of methamphetamine, leading to a 90-minute standoff. Coty Lee Arnold, 31, 1112 King Springs Road, No. 3, was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, being a felon in possession of a handgun and possession of stolen property.. Police went to the apartment about 9 a.m. and learned Arnold had fired a one round from a Ruger .22 revolver inside the apartment. As police secured the scene, Arnold came out of the apartment while holding the revolver to his head. After about 90 minutes of negotiations, he surrendered. Arnold was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center under $46,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance set for Monday.
THP pursuit leads to arrest: A chase initiated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol led to the arrest of a man Johnson City police wanted in connection with an alleged car theft and pursuit last month. Police said 32-year-old Tommy Nelson, 324 Race St., Elizabethton, fled during an attempted traffic stop July 27. He stole a vehicle from a Roadrunner on West Walnut Street the following day. He was arrested after a THP pursuit on Friday that ended in Elizabethton. Nelson was a passenger in the car that fled. Nelson was charged with auto theft over $2,500 and evading arrest. He was jailed under a combined bond of $15,000. He appeared in Sessions Court Friday.
Medical Center robbery: Johnson City Police arrested a man Friday in connection with an alleged robbery that happened outside of Johnson City Medical Center in July. Police responded to a call on July 27, where a woman reported she had been contacted by a friend, Thomas Addison Levan, 19, 410 Oliver Approach, who asked if she wanted to meet. She told police that when she approached Levan’s vehicle, he took her wallet and she fell trying to get it back. After she fell, Levan reportedly hit her with his car. Levan was charged with especially aggravated robbery. He was held in the Washington County Detention Center under $50,000 bond awaiting a Sessions Court appearance set for Monday.
Assault outside John Sevier Center: Johnson City police charged a Johnson City man with aggravated assault after a reported knife attack at the John Sevier Center. Lynden Joel Crumley, 26, 123 W. Millard St., Johnson City, allegedly threatened and attempted to cut another man with a knife. The alleged victim blocked Crumley’s reported attack with his bike and called 911 before being injured. Crumley was held on $5,000 bond and arraigned in Sessions Court on Thursday.
Traffic stop leads to felony meth arrest: Johnson City Police charged an Elizabethton man with possession of methamphetamine for resale Tuesday after a traffic stop. Police said 26-year-old Austin Sheets, 917 Pine Ridge Circle, Elizabethton, was pulled over for running a red light early Tuesday morning and told police his license was revoked. A search of Sheets’ car turned up 30.21 grams of meth (roughly an ounce), 0.73 grams of crack and less than a gram of marijuana. Police also found baggies, a digital scale, a glass pipe, four marijuana roaches and a pair of brass knuckles. He was charged with failure to obey a traffic control device, driving on a revoked license, simple possession of schedule II and VI drugs, felony possession of methamphetamine for resale and a weapons law violation. Sheets was held on $14,000 bond and arraigned in Sessions Court last Tuesday.
