Robert J. Stinson, 31, 704 W. Maple St., Johnson City, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of methamphetamine for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers responded to Capone’s shortly before 11 p.m. after getting a call about a man trying to sell a weapon. They located Stinson in the restroom and took a brown paper bag from him that a witnesses believed contained a gun. Police said they took Stinson outside to talk to him and asked what he had in the paper bag. According to court records, he admitted having a marijuana pipe, which gave officers probable cause to search him.
While searching Stinson, officers reported finding a .22-caliber round in his front left pocket and a handgun tucked into the front of his pants. The 9mm Springfield handgun was loaded and Stinson was arrested. He told police it was his. In the paper bag, police found a white pill bottle with a small baggie that had a white crystal-like substance “consistent with methamphetamine.”
Stinson told police he got the bag from a friend and planned to sell the drugs. A witness at the bar told officers that Stinson asked him if he knew anyone who wanted to buy a gun, and that Stinson showed him the gun by lifting his shirt.
Officers field tested the white substance, which they determined was meth. The gun Stinson had was reported stolen, but the report did not indicate where that happened.
Stinson was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and held on a $23,000 bond.
