Johnson City police said a Georgia man lured a minor into his vehicle Wednesday and took the child to a hotel, resulting in his arrest on a kidnapping charge Thursday. Police also reported finding pornographic images of another minor on the man’s mobile phone.

James Cranfield, 64, was charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

About 10 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to an address on Princeton Road to investigate. In a news release, they said Cranfield enticed a minor, whom he did not know, into getting into his vehicle then took the child to multiple businesses in Johnson City. Cranfield also took the minor to his hotel in Boones Creek. Cranfield later returned the minor to the location on Princeton Road.

On Thursday, police found Cranfield at the Quality Inn, 119 Pinnacle Drive, and took him to police headquarters. Police said Cranfield gave investigators permission to search his mobile devices. Two pornographic images of a minor were found on one of his mobile devices. The images on the phone were not of the kidnapping victim.

Cranfield, 139 Bright Lane, Ringgold, Georgia, was held in the Washington County Detention Center under $57,500 bond awaiting a Sessions Court appearance set for Friday.
