On Nov. 15, Johnson City police charged an unidentified juvenile with aggravated assault and weapon charges after attacking Science Hill High School Principal Todd Barnett with a knife, officials said.

According to Johnson City Police, Barnett received severe lacerations from a knife during the assault.

Johnson City Schools Director of Instruction and Communication Debra Bentley said the investigation was ongoing and that the school district was cooperating with police.

Bentley said Barnett seemed to be doing better and was enjoying his Thanksgiving break with family.

“Since this is an ongoing police investigation, we have no further comment,” she said Wednesday.

The child is set to appear in court on Jan. 11, 2019.
