The crash happened around 6:40 a.m. when the driver of a 1997 Oldsmobile four-door coupe tried to pass another car in front of him in a curve and on a section of road marked with a solid yellow divider line, according to a crash report from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The Oldsmobile was driven by Roger E. Tipton, 55, 3246 Tenn. Highway 81 S., Jonesborough. According to the Washington County Circuit Court case access website, warrants were issued Monday charging Tipton with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, altering a vehicle title or plate, second offense driving on a cancelled license and failure to provide financial responsibility.
According to the crash report, Tipton was traveling east toward Jonson City when he tried to pass a vehicle in front of him in a curve near Sanders Animal Hospital. Tipton crashed head-on into a 1997 Toyota driven by Tammy M. Fellers, 49, of Jonesborough.
Both drivers received serious injuries and were transported to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment. Neither vehicle had passengers, and the drivers were wearing their seat belts, according to the report.
