A Johnson City woman used a deceased person’s bank account to cash several checks, police said Monday in a news release.

Keisha Nicole Willingham, 30, 509 Dru Lane, was charged with theft of property over $1,000.

Oct. 11, police met with a family member who reported that multiple checks on the deceased person’s account were starting to show up as deposited and cashed. These checks were passed approximately one month after the victim died.

Police said several checks were written to Keisha N. Willingham and then deposited into her banking account.

Willingham already was held in the Washington County Detention Center on unrelated charges and served with the warrant on the new charges Monday. He bond was increased by $10,000.

She was set to appear Tuesday in Sessions Court.
