Johnson City Police are asking the community to be on the lookout for a man who robbed a downtown bank.

According to Sgt. Don Shepard, the man entered Select Seven Credit Union, 333 E. Main St., at about 3 p.m. on Thursday with a firearm and told a clerk he wanted to make a withdrawal.

Shepard said witnesses described the alleged robber as a white man in his 40s, clean-shaven and wearing a baggy, royal blue button-up shirt, black gloves, blue jeans, boots, a blue baseball cap and sunglasses.

“We’re getting the best statements possible (from witnesses), we’re also retrieving some video and some still photos from bank surveillance,” Shepard said, adding, “If someone sees him out, we ask that they be a very good witness and contact 911 and stay on the phone as long as they can, but not put themselves in any danger.”

Shepard said the man was last seen leaving the credit union toward Colonial Way and State of Franklin Road.

Anybody with information that can assist in identifying the suspect is asked to call the Johnson City Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 423-434-6166, or to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 434-6158.
