A change of clothes didn’t stop a Kingsport man from being arrested following a report of shoplifting at Walmart, police said in a news release.

Johnson City police arrested William T Johnson, 27, 1151 Ward Place, after he allegedly took items from Walmart, 3111 Browns Mill Road. According to the release, loss prevention alleged that a man took items from the business and left in a brown truck. Officers found the truck at the intersection of Browns Mill Road and North State of Franklin Road and pulled it over. Johnson had changed his clothes, but officers were still able to identify him from video surveillance, the release said.

During the stop, police also discovered Johnson’s license was revoked, his registration was expired and his license plate had been altered, the release said.

Police jailed Johnson at the Washington County Detention Center on charges of third offense of driving on a revoked license, altering a license plate and expired registration. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon.
