A Kentucky man was arrested Thursday evening after police responded to a fight in progress and said he hit a man with a frying pan.

When Johnson City police officers arrived at a Fairview Avenue residence around 7:30 p.m. about a fight in progress, the two men were still engaged in the fight. After separating the men, police said they determined William Huertas had hit the other man in the face with a frying pan and had possibly broken his nose.

The victim, who was not identified in court documents, told officers that he was sitting at the table when he was hit “out of nowhere.”

Huertas told police that the victim and two other men had conspired to take $20 from his boot. According to the affidavit, police could find no evidence to support Huertas’ claim. He was arrested on a single count of aggravated assault.

Huertas was arraigned on the charge Friday in Washington County Sessions Court. His bond, originally set at $5,000 was reduced to $2,500, and Judge Robert Lincoln set the case for a hearing on July 12.
