Body found in the Watauga River in Elizabethton

The body of a white male was found in the Watauga River in Elizabethton today, according to a news release from the Carter County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a call at 1:15 p.m. near Sycamore Shoals Drive and when they arrived, they found the body. According to the release, deputies believed the body had been in the river for "some time."

The cause of death nor the identity of the body has not been determined. The body was sent to East Tennessee State University's Quillen College of Medicine for and autopsy. 

This was the second body found in the Watauga River within a month’s time. The body of Jacob Hampton was found along Riverside Drive in Elizabethton on March 29.

The release also requested for anyone with information about the case to call Carter County Sheriff’s Office investigators at 423-542-1896.
