According to release from the Johnson City Police Department, Robert W. Dunk, 40, 2328 Eastside Ave., was charged around 3 a.m. Saturday.
The release said that officers learned during their investigation that Dunk reportedly took a cell phone from his fiancée, with whom he was arguing, and prevented her from calling 911. Police also reported that Dunk retrieved a handgun and threatened to "pistol whip" her. Another family member called 911 and Dunk left the home.
Officers searching for Dunk stopped a vehicle matching the description of his van. Police said they found a loaded handgun under the front passenger seat of the vehicle and ammunition in Dunk's pocket.
Dunk was charged with aggravated assault, being a felon in possession of a handgun and interference with emergency calls.
The release said Dunk had previously been convicted on drug charges in Florida. He was being held in the Washington County on $61,000 bond. His arraignment is set for Monday at 1:30 p.m.
