Medley relay team highlights Science Hill's state effort

KNOXVILLE — The Science Hill swimming and diving team had a solid first day’s work at the state championships on Friday.

“We had a really nice first day with over 75 percent of our people swimming lifetime bests,” Science Hill head coach Chris Coraggio said. “People stepped up today that weren’t even qualified for the meet at the beginning of the season. I’m really looking forward to closing out tomorrow with some more good performances.”

Some of the highlights for the Hilltoppers included a fifth-place finish in the girls 200-yard medley relay. They finished in 1:50.26 with the team of Molly Bowman, Haley Altman, Julia Davenport and Morgan Misenar.

Lexi Gay posted Science Hill’s highest individual finish of the day with a 13th-place showing in the 200 individual medley.

Lily Hamilton finished 14th in the diving competition with 261.95 points while Misenar finished 16th in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.85.

On the boys’ side, the ’Toppers’ 200 medley relay — Kodee Eads, Victor Lam, James Bernard and Jake McMackin — finished in 14th with a time of 1:42.42.

Eads had the top finish for the Science Hill boys with a 14th-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 1:58.62.

The ’Toppers are currently in 10th place in the girls with 36 points and 22nd on the boys side with nine points. in the combined team score race, the ’Toppers are sitting in 11th place with 45 points.

Grace Allen for Dobyns-Bennett finished in 16th in the girls’ 200 individual medley.
