Meet your Washington County Board of Education candidates

Voters have a chance to meet Washington County Board of Education candidates this week during a forum hosted by the Johnson City Press and Washington County commission candidate Jodi Jones.

The forum will be held Thursday at the Memorial Park Community Center, from 7-8:30 p.m. Eight of the nine candidates will be present to answer questions from the public: Annette Buchanan, Kerrie Aistrop, Chad Fleenor, Keith Ervin, Mitch Meredith, Donald Feathers, Trevor Knight and David Hammond. Jason Day will not be in town to attend, Jones said.

“I created the forum because I wanted folks to have a chance to meet the candidates, but also because I believe that city residents should be more engaged in more broader issues in the county,” Jones said. “(City and county) residents pay county taxes and the school board members make difficult decisions about schools in the county.

“Related to that, the quality of our schools have implications for our economic development in the county, and in the end, the city needs the county to be thriving.”

Community members may attend the meeting to ask questions, or email them to nbaker@johnsoncitypress.com ahead of time. Light refreshments will be served, and the forum will also be live-streamed online at the newspaper’s website, johnsoncitypress.com.
