Pets of the Week

Upon arrival at the shelter today, I was greeted by a very nice group of young people who seemed to be overly excited about their trip to the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter. The group was from out of town (just a bit), visiting our region from Colombia and Venezuela as Youth Ambassadors.

While it always does my heart good to see young people at the shelter, spending time with these animals who deserve so much attention, it was especially nice to see young people who were so very attentive to the dogs and cats in their cages. Each of them walked dogs, or held cats, and did so with joy. The world needs more of that.

This week’s Pets of the Week are:

• Banshee, a six-month-old gray female Calico who is just as sweet as she is cute. Immediately friendly, and playful without being too much of a handful, she could be the perfect fit for your family.

• Angie is a calm and sweet kitten who loves to cuddle. Only 14 weeks old, this female domestic short hair may have found her forever home today, as a young lady spent lots of time getting to know her.

• Bert is a ten-week-old male Chihuahua mix who likes kids and other dogs, and could be a wonderful addition to any home. He had a blast playing with a young man in the big room, and the two then moved to a small visitation room for some one-on-one time.

• Harley is a two-and-a-half-year-old male German Shepherd mix who loves to be outside, and loves the attention of the ladies. Sweet and attentive, he is small enough to be an inside dog, and intuitive enough to protect your home. You can visit the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter at 3411 North Roan St., or visit them online at tailchaser.org.

Beyond those four, there are plenty of animals at all of our regional shelters who could use some love and attention. If you have the time, please do what you can and spend some time with them.
