Charles was a proud United States Army Veteran having served his country honorably during the Korean War. He retired as 1st Sargent from the Tennessee Army National Guard after thirty-three years of service. Charles was an active member of American Legion Unaka Post #25 which will now become the Charlie King Unaka Post #25.
He worked in Signal Communications and was an Electrical Maintainer for Clinchfield Railroad (thirty-one years) and CSX (thirteen years) before his retirement. Charles was a member of Erwin Presbyterian Church and attended Fishery Community Church for many years which he loved very much.
He loved spending time with his family and friends. Charles enjoyed fishing, target shooting and attending Patriotic events.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life for sixty-two years, Ruth Wilson King on March 3, 2018; three brothers: William E. King, Jr., Fred L. King and Harry W. King; one sister, Katheryn King.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, three sons: Charles “Eddie” King (Brenda), Junction City, KS, William Christopher King, Jacksonville, FL and John W. King (Keyla), Piney Flats; one daughter, Penny King, Chattanooga; two grandchildren: Kimberlyn King and Jonathan W. King; one brother, Joe D. King, New York City, NY; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, January 20, 2020 in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. John Gouge, Jonathan W. King, Pastor Art Gibson and John King will share memories and remarks during the 7:00 PM service. Committal will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by Carter County Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 PM on Tuesday.
Flowers will be accepted or those wishing may make a memorial donation in memory of Mr. King to one of his favorite charities: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial Department, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
