Waymond Robert Bailey

Waymond Robert Bailey, affectionately known as Blue entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 9th, 2018.

Waymond was born December 6th, 1949 in Johnson City, TN to Beatrice Brown Bailey and Robert “Slim” Waymond Bailey. 

As a teen Waymond became a great bass player eventually playing with the Drifters. After his music career Waymond worked many places in Johnson City including flooring with Charles Yett, construction on Mountain View Elementary, and finally binding books at Southeastern Color-graphics. Mr. Bailey absolutely loved his sisters and he cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. 

For a time Waymond lived in Winston Salem, North Carolina with his life partner Freda Phillips and sons Robert, Zachary, and step son Craig. While in North Carolina he retired and spent many days caring for his grandchildren.

 Waymond was preceded in death by his parents Robert Waymond and Beatrice Bailey; His ex-wife Martha Bailey, His life partner Freda Phillips; Sisters, Wyndle “Winnie” Odem and Mary Joyce Bachman, and Grandson Isaiah Phillips He is survived by siblings Phillip Lyman (Salisbury, North Carolina), Katie Hynes (David) Winston Salem, North Carolina, Margaret “Sugar” Easterly (Johnson City, TN), and Annie Smith (Johnson City, TN). Daughter: Wanda Williams (Mark); Harrisburg PA; Brandon Turner, Jordan Turner, and Jaden Williams. Daughter: Ramona Spencer (Justin); Turtle Creek, PA; Candice Green, Jasmine Green, Alissa Green, and Katelyn Green and one great grandson Dakota Green Step Son: Craig Phillips; Charlotte, NC; Cienna Son: Robert Grunder (Brenda); Johnson City, TN; Levi Grunder and Malcolm Grunder Son Robert Phillips; Winston Salem, NC Jaylen Phillips, Makayla Phillips, and Cole Phillips Son Zachary Phillips; Winston Salem, NC; Zaylah Phillips, Zamir Phillips, Zaliya Phillips, and Zechariah Phillips Waymond also had numerous nephews and nieces that he loved dearly.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00pm Friday June 15, 2018 at the Birchette Mortuary Chapel, the family will receive friends from 11:00am until 12:00pm at the Chapel prior to the service. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Johnson City.
