Wandalea Black Owens

JOHNSON CITY - Wandalea Black Owens, age 87, Johnson City, passed away Sunday, June 10, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was a Bradley County native and a daughter of the late Rev. John Shell and Etheline Newman Black.

Wandalea was a homemaker and a member of Johnson City Church of God. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Deola Kington and a brother, Darrell Black. Survivors include six children, Elizabeth Ann Terry and husband Mark, Greensboro, NC, Gene Anderson and wife Terri, Thomasville, NC, Sheila Loyd and husband Tom, Chuckey, TN, Glenda Fillers and husband Bruce, Johnson City, Debbie Chapman and husband Bob, Johnson City, and Steve McKinney and wife Donna, Jonesborough; one brother, Lamar Black and wife Carolyn; four sisters, Maurine Hodge, Jean Arrowood and husband Sam, Carol Smith and husband John, and Teresa Bawgus and husband Rev. Richard Bawgus; grandchildren, Kelly Halloran, Scott Burgess, Rudy Anderson, Shane Anderson, Joseph Strider, Amber Strider, Carrie Grainger, Richard Wood, Steve Wood, Benjamin Wood, Bryant Wood, Jana Wood, Heather Laws, Ashley Fillers, Joe McKinney, Lindsey Konowalczyk and Kara Cloyd; 34 great- grandchildren and three great-great -grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted Thursday June 14, 2018, at 7PM at Johnson City Church of God with Rev. Bryant Collins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5PM until 7PM in the church sanctuary. The graveside committal service will be Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:30AM at Fairview Cemetery in Jonesborough. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the cemetery by 11:20AM. Pallbearers will be Richard Wood, Joe McKinney, Rudy Anderson, Bryant Wood, Mark McKinney and Josh Cloyd. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Burgess, Shane Anderson and Steve Wood.
