He was a native of Washington County and son of the late Charlie and Lucy Frye Godsey.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Hicks Godsey, seven brothers, and one sister.
George enjoyed buying and selling livestock and farming. He especially enjoyed going to livestock auctions where he made many friends as he traveled through North and South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Those family members left to cherish his memory include his children: Helen Smith and husband Jerry, Carol Griffin and husband Wade, Linda Godsey, Kathy Humphrey, George Godsey, Jr., and wife Lisa, Chris Godsey and wife Michelle; eleven grandchildren: Daniel Smith and wife Rebecca, John Smith and wife Bichtuyen, Angela Griffin, Melinda Griffin, Tracy Bare and husband Jonathan, Deborah Cross and husband Brian, Eric Griffin and wife Crystal, David Humphrey and wife Deanna, Jason Humphrey and wife Amanda, Elizabeth Godsey, and Ethan Godsey and wife Cheyenne; eighteen great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, one sister, Pat Lowe, several nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends to share memories on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 5:00 pm until a Celebration of George’s Life at 7:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Paul Crowe, Rev. Terry Jones, and Rev. Howard Ray officiating. A Graveside and Committal Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at New Bethel Cemetery Piney Flats. Active pallbearers will be Daniel Smith, John Smith, Eric Griffin, David Humphrey, Jason Humphrey, and Robbie Casey. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Smith, Wade Griffin, Don Hodge, Buster Hodge, Vernon Smith, Jack Davis, Ray Humphrey, and Howard Ray. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am on Wednesday.
