GREENEVILLE - Wava Mae Rumbley, 92, of Greeneville, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at her home.

She resided in Johnson City until moving to Greeneville in 2003. She was a native of Watauga and daughter of the late Eugene Orville and Beulah Mae Bennett Humphreys.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bobbie Rumbley, sister, Jeannie Barnett, brothers: Jack Humphreys, Ray Humphreys, brother-in-law, Paul Friday, Robert Carr, sisters-in-law: Janice Humphreys, and Peggy Shipley.

Wava was a devoted wife, mother, mother in-law, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.  She was a caring and loving woman who always gave to others.  She was a Christian woman of strong faith.  Wava was married to the one and only love of her life Charlie for 48 years.  Her unconditional love for him was a special thing to witness and an example to all.  Her second love was her family.  Her love and devotion to their care was unending and unmatched.  She was always the happiest when surrounded by her family or talking about her family.  She took great pride in being Mamaw to everyone.  Wava possessed a wonderful sense of humor.  If you spent five minutes with her it was guaranteed you would be laughing.  She loved to sew and cook for her family.  Wava was always thankful and appreciative for everything that was done for her. No matter how small it may seem to others. She was a tremendous sports fan and was all state in basketball at Mary Hughes High School.  Wava also enjoyed her trips to the beach and Lady Vols basketball games with her sisters and family.  In her later years, she enjoyed sitting at her kitchen table sharing a cup of coffee with her special caregiver Gayle and watching the birds outside her window at the feeder.

Those family members left to cherish Wava’s memory include her children, daughter, Linda Rumbley Stewart and her husband Jim, son, Charles Randy Rumbley and his wife Cindy, sisters: Shirley Friday, Brenda Whittington and her husband Gorley; grandchildren: Kristi Stewart Hopwood and her husband Rob Weems, Ashley Rumbley Hughes and her husband Ryan; great-grandchildren: Cole Hopwood, and Nash Hughes; sister-in-law, Missie Humphreys, Vivian Carr, several nieces and nephews, special friend and caregiver, Gayle Ricker.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to all of you who ever did anything for her or spent time with her.  They would also like to thank the entire staff of Amedysis Hospice especially Dr. Thwing and the nurses who came to the home.

The family will greet friends to share memories on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 5:00 pm until a Celebration of Wava’s Life at 7:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Mike Friday officiating.
