He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mildred Gilbert Marshall.
Jimmy had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. He was the owner and operator of Jim’s Backhoe Service for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War where he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, one Overseas Service Bar and a Sharpshooter designation.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Surber and husband Jamie; two grandsons, Grayson and Cade Surber; one sister, Thelma Statzer and husband Gene; three nephews; one niece; several great and great-great-nieces and nephews; dear friend and mother of his daughter, Carol Perkins; along with aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home in Bristol, TN. The committal and interment will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Mountain Home, TN with Phillip Statzer officiating. Nephews and friends will be pallbearers.
