Yates Family Band featured at Heartwood

The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail presents The Yates Family Band in concert on Thursday, Dec. 14 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Heartwood in Abingdon, Virginia as part of The Crooked Road Music Series at Heartwood.

Admission to the concert is free and donations will be accepted for the Crooked Road Traditional Music Education Program.

The Yates Family Band, a family-based old time and bluegrass band from Smyth County, Virginia, features Molly Yates, age 17, performing on guitar, mandolin and banjo, and Sadie Yates, age 15 performing on the doghouse bass and guitar. The girls perform with their parents Tim, on guitar and Debbie, on banjo and fiddle.

They have performed at venues such as The Carter Fold and the International Bluegrass Music Association festival.

The series features youth artists each second Thursday along with open jams on the first, third, fourth and fifth Thursdays to showcase Southwest Virginia performers. Heartwood also features food, music and craft of Southwest Virginia.
