To be named Sailor of the Year, sailors must exhibit superior performance and personal conduct well above that of their peers. Stout, an Aegis fire controlman first class, graduated from Daniel Boone High School in Gray in 2012 before joining the Navy. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Wayne Stout, who both served in the Navy.
As an Aegis fire controlman, Stout is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the ship’s advanced AEGIS combat system, including its radars, computer networks and missiles. In 2015, Stout deployed to the Middle East with USS Paul Hamilton. She will report to Pittsburgh next for duty as a Navy recruiter.
Of the honor, Stout said, “I am very proud to have been named Sailor of the Year. We have such an outstanding crew that it means a lot to be recognized in this way.”
Stationed in San Diego, Paul Hamilton is the 10th Arleigh Burke Class Aegis guided missile destroyer and is one of the most sophisticated and capable warships in the world. Destroyers are capable of sustained combat operations supporting forward presence, maritime security, sea control and deterrence. These combatants operate in a network-centric warfare environment and execute multi-mission tasking, including ballistic missile defense, anti-air, surface, antisubmarine and cyber warfare.
