Winged Deer Park lakefront playground closed temporarily: The Melba Goulding Playground at Winged Deer Park’s Festival Plaza will be closed from 8:30-11 a.m. until July 13 while maintenance work is performed. For more information, call 423-283-5815.

Youth soccer registration is open; volunteer coaches, officials needed: Johnson City Parks and Recreation’s youth soccer registration will take place through Aug. 12. Boys and girls ages 3-15 as of Aug. 15 are eligible to participate. Practices begin Aug. 18, and the season begins Sept. 8. Age divisions 3-5, 6-7 and 8-9 will play at Civitan Park; 10-11 and 12-Up teams will play at Winged Deer Park. Register in person at the Winged Deer Park Athletic Office from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday or 8 a.m.-noon on Saturdays. Special registration times for Aug. 11 will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and Aug. 12 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Registration forms must be returned to the Athletics Office. Registration fee is $25 for city residents, $30 for non-city residents. Checks should be made payable to the city of Johnson City. A late fee of $20 will be applied after Aug. 12. To register online, go to www.myjcparks.org. Volunteer coaches also are needed. A coaches meeting will be held at the Athletics Office on Aug. 7 at 5:30 p.m. League materials will be distributed and the upcoming season’s rules/regulations will be discussed. Anyone interested in becoming a soccer official can fill out an application at the Winged Deer Athletics Office. Officials must be at least 16, knowledgeable about the sport, and able to pass a background check. An officials meeting will be held at the Athletics Office at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 15. For more information, call 423-283-5822.

Barbecue supper: The Telford Ruritan Club will host a barbecue supper on Friday, July 13, from 5-7 p.m. The Telford Ruritan Club is located at the corner of Telford School House Road and Telford-New Victory Road. The menu, which will consist of a barbecue sandwich, beans, cole slaw, desserts and drinks may be purchased for a donation and will be available for carryout. 

Bulls Eye Band: Bulls Eye Band will be playing at the Buffalo Ruritan, 200 Willow Brook Drive in Bluff City on July 14 at 7 p.m. The cost is $6. For more information, call 423-967-1651. 

Alzheimers caregiver support: Alzheimer’s Tennessee Caregiver Support Group meets the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at Brookdale, 2003 Water’s Edge Drive, Johnson City. Participants can learn about community resources, share coping techniques and gain insight and feedback from others who understand. Fish fry: Bloomingdale Ruritan Club will fundraise for the community with a fish fry on July 13 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. On the menu will also be slaw, potatoes and hush puppies. The cost for eat-in is $9 and carry-out is $8 with no drink. Delivery is available to local plants, businesses and those who have a hard time leaving their home.
