In the spotlight: Happenings to help with those New Year's resolutions

• If your resolution was to be more mindful, Johnson City’s Downtown Yoga Center, 122 Spring St., can help with the 5th annual Living with Intention workshop on Saturday from 12:30-4 p.m. The workshop will help participants with yoga, meditation and journaling. A $50 reservation fee covers all supplies and snacks for the afternoon, and all proceeds will benefit St. Jude’s Research Hospital. 

• If your resolution was to get your voice out there, try out your songs or poetry on the open mic at the Willow Tree Coffeehouse and Music Room, 216 E. Main St., Saturday from 6-10 p.m. The event is part of The Willow Tree’s five year anniversary celebration. The sign up board goes out at 5 p.m. 


• If your resolution was to work on your projects, bring your ideas and skills to The Inventor Center, 118 Shelby St., on Thursdays starting at 5:30 p.m. Makers and entrepreneurs are invited to expand their craft and help others learn by building a community base of artists, crafters and geeks of all kinds. 

• If your resolution was to step out of your comfort zone, CJ’s Sports Bar, 516 Morelock St., is hosting a karaoke bash Thursday-Saturday beginning at 8 p.m. each night. Admission is free. 


• If your resolution was to get in shape, ice skating at Bristol Motor Speedway, 151 Speedway Blvd., might be a fun way to get some exercise in your schedule. This weekend is one of the last to try your skates at the ice, and the rink is open 4-9 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday. Admission is $6 per person Sun.-Thurs and $8 on . Friday and Saturday, and skate rental is $2.

• If your resolution was to learn something new, learn how to create a mosaic picture frame at Kil'n Time Contemporary Ceramic Studio, 818 State St. The tow-hour workshop starts at noon on Saturday and costs $53 to attend. Pre-registration requires a nonrefundable $5 deposit.
