The East Tennessee State University will hold its second annual Star Wars Night Saturday when the ETSU men’s basketball hosts the University of Tennessee-Martin, according to a news release.

In addition, Saturday is faculty and staff appreciation night, when ETSU employees can purchase up to four tickets for half-price. The game, sponsored by HomeTrust Bank, starts at 4 p.m. inside Freedom Hall Civic Center. Gates to Freedom Hall will open at 3 p.m.

ETSU Athletics has built a partnership with Lucasfilm and the Canon Character Group — the 501st Legion — to support a philanthropy within the Tri-Cities. This year, Lucasfilm and ETSU have teamed with Children Exceeding Expectations, and they have been invited to Saturday’s game.

To help raise money for CEE, there will be a silent auction during Saturday’s game where items such as the ETSU Star Wars commemorative basketball poster, custom stormtrooper helmets and other unique Star Wars memorabilia will be present to bid on. Two auction sites will be set up inside Freedom Hall — one inside the Courtside Club and one at the main entrance of the arena. All of the money raised in the auction will be donated to CEE.

Fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Star Wars character on Saturday as 21 members of the 501st Legion will be in costume inside Freedom Hall. Following the game, the Star Wars characters will be available for a postgame photo and autograph session on the court.

Prior to the start of Saturday’s game, ETSU Athletics will honor the late Alvin West, who passed away in August. West’s family and many of his teammates will be in attendance.

Fans can purchase tickets by calling 423-439-3878 or online.
