In the spotlight: Enjoy a weekend with furry friends, hear a story or enjoy homecoming

Johnson City

• Join the Downtown Yoga Center, 122 Spring St., Sunday starting at 2 p.m. for yoga, kittens and coffee. A yoga with kittens class will begin at 2 p.m., open kitten adoption will be from 3-4 p.m. and Dos Gatos Coffee Bar will be providing coffee and scones for participants beginning at 3 p.m. There is a suggested $10 donation for the class.

• Folk Soul Revival will play for East Tennessee State University’s homecoming tailgate party at 1:30 Saturday afternoon at the Pepsi/Buctainment stage in the parking lot behind Warf-Pickel Hall on campus. The concert is free. Wyldeheart will open the show at noon.

Kingsport

• Dogs and their humans are invited to the Kingsport Aquatic Center, 1820 Meadowview Parkway, Saturday from 1-4 p.m. for a special party to swim in the outdoor waterpark to close out the season. Dogs must be up-to-date on current vaccinations, and proof of vaccination paperwork rom a veterinarian is required for entry. Admission is $5 per human and free for dogs. Admission is two dogs per human, and handlers must be 18 or older. Humans will not be able to swim during the event. 

• Party like it’s 1920 and help local animals with a Gatsby-themed dinner party at Taylored Venue and Events, 115 Shelby St., Saturday from 6-10 p.m. A  $50 ticket includes dinner, two drinks from the cash bar, live music and dancing. Proceeds from The Great Catsby will benefit the Sullivan County Humane Society. Learn more at facebook.com/Sullivan-County-Humane-Society. 

Jonesborough

• Downtown Jonesborough will be bustling this weekend with the National Storytelling Festival Friday through Sunday. Dozens of tellers from around the world will take take the stages throughout the weekend, but you don’t need a weekend pass to enjoy a slice of fun. Check out storytellingcenter.net for separate events like ghost stories, the midnight cabaret or other concerts as well as weekend and day passes.
