The Ernie Thacker Benefit Concert will be held Friday, Feb. 23, at the Capitol Theatre, 104 S. Main St., in downtown Greeneville.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and music begins at 6, continuing to around 11.

Tickets are $20.

Ernie Thacker is a deeply beloved bluegrass artist whose life took a tragic turn in April 2006.

As a teen, Ernie was the legendary Ralph Stanley’s lead vocalist, as well as having a successful path with his solo recordings.

But on April 18, as he was driving to his brother’s house near his home in the Clinch Valley region of Virginia, his car went off the road and he was thrown from the vehicle. He has no memory of the accident itself, but it left him with multiple, very serious injuries.

Ernie’s battle continues as he has developed a severe bone infection and doctors have rendered further treatment futile.

Proceeds from this all-star concert will be used to help Ernie with his expenses.

Performances will be given by Steve Gulley & Tim Stafford, Wildfire, Blue Highway, Wilson Banjo Co., Route 23 Alumni Band, Steve Gulley & New Pinnacle.
