Senior Services offers basketball outings: Senior Services at Memorial Park Community Center, 510 Bert St., will offer those 50 and up tickets and transportation from MPCC to Freedom Hall Civic Center for the two Saturday ETSU men’s basketball home games listed below. The bus leaves MPCC at 3 p.m. and returns at 6:30 p.m. for both games. Participants must use transportation provided by Senior Services. Cost is $5 per game. Register in person at MPCC. Carter Co. Dems to meet: The Carter County Democratic Party will meet Saturday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m. in the conference room of the Carter County Courthouse, Elizabethton. This is an open meeting and all who are interested in the platform and principles of the party, and the importance of the midterm elections, are invited to attend. The guest speaker will give a special report on the U.S. House of Representatives.
Open house set for arts program: The McKinney Center’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts will hold Spring Open House Saturday, Jan. 13, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Attendees can meet instructors, tour the facility and sample classes. Light refreshments will be served. Deadline to register for classes and workshops is Saturday, Jan. 20.
Auditions set for Alexander’s horrible day: Theatre Bristol, 512 State St., Bristol, will hold auditions for “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” Friday through Monday, Jan. 13-15, at the theater. Country breakfast to be served: The Limestone Ruritan Club, 121 Limestone Ruritan Road, Limestone, will host a Country Breakfast Buffet on Saturday, Jan. 13, from 7-10 a.m. This is an all-you-can-eat meal for $8 per person. Come hungry and enjoy a hearty breakfast.
Woman’s club to meet for yoga: The Johnson City Woman's Club will meet at the Blackthorn Club on Friday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. preceded by social time with coffee at 10:30. The program will be Chair Yoga presented by Betsy Weems. Club members will participate in the program with the instructor. Swim event set for Friday: King University alumni along with faculty, staff, current students and the community are invited to gather at Virginia High School in Bristol, Virginia, as the Tornado swim team competes against Mars Hill University and Emory and Henry College on Friday, Jan. 12. The event will kick off at 6 p.m. Admission is free. Noisemakers are permitted and encouraged. Cowbells will be given to the first 50 fans.
NSCC holiday schedule: The offices and campuses of Northeast State Community College will be closed to the public Monday, Jan. 15, to commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday holiday. Offices of the college’s Blountville campus will be closed as will Northeast State at Elizabethton and Northeast State at Kingsport. The campuses at Johnson City, Mountain City, Bristol and Unicoi County will also be closed. Students can access class management and register for spring classes at www.NortheastState.edu. All Northeast State campuses will resume regular operating hours on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
