Oct. 28, 1886: Joe Wilson and Frank DeGroate had gone snipe hunting the previous night. They waited very quietly, holding the sack for nearly an hour while the hunters went to drive the snipe. It was drizzling rain and very cold.

Oct. 28, 1909: The Comet reported on the death of 15 year-old Florence Dalton. Miss Dalton perished of typhoid fever.

Oct. 28, 1978: Bob Seger played in front of more than 5,600 fans at Freedom Hall Civic Center.

Oct. 28, 2009: University School’s Junior Bucs topped the Elizabethton Cyclones, 2-1 in the Region 1-A/AA girls soccer semifinals. Michelle Green and Carrie Jones scored for the Junior Bucs.
