March 15, 1950: Two road gang escapees had been bound to the grand jury on charges they had robbed cab drivers in Johnson City and Bristol during their time at large. George Black and Bill Teague were held in the Washington County Jail on $10,000 bond each.
March 15, 1989: Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, which was established as the Mountain Branch National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in 1903, was officially renamed the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in honor of U.S. Rep. James H. Quillen.
March 15, 1997: Former City Commissioner and Mayor Shirley Chapman died. She was a commissioner from 1983-1991 and mayor from 1987-1988.
