Dec. 23, 1928: The Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Johnson City was organized.

Dec. 23, 2005: Science Hill’s wrestling team won the KT Seldart dual tournament Friday in Spruce Pine, N.C. The Hilltoppers went 10-0 in the tournament. Bo Usary, Ben Murray, Damien Buchanan, Ethan Henley, David Williamson, Brett Usary, Grant Mitchell, Michael Goldstein and Sean Aushon were all undefeated.

Dec. 23, 2008: Amelia Preston was so excited about Christmas that she had to have a white Christmas. Her dad, Sam, knew of only one way to get the 3-year-old what she wanted, given the uncooperative forecast — buy a snow making machine. So he did. His yard on Locust Street was the only one with fresh, white powder on it that morning.
