Dec. 10, 1866: East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia Christian Churches met to secure a charter for the Buffalo Male and Female Institute, now known as Milligan College.

Dec. 10, 1945: City Commissioner W.O. Dyer passed away. His term was from 1943-1946.

Dec. 10, 2007: Mountain States Health Alliance announced that it planned to acquire Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon, Virginia. It was the Johnson City-based hospital system’s fourth acquisition in Southwest Virginia and 14th hospital overall in its transformation into a regional health care powerhouse. “It’s probably been no secret that we are really developing and building up our organization in Southwest Virginia, and this was a logical next step for us to take,” MSHA CEO Dennis Vonderfecht said at the time.
