Boones Creek Historical Trust: Inaugural Soiree, 260 years in the making

If you haven’t been to the new Boones Creek Historical Trust Museum and Opry yet, there’s a party coming that’s been in the works for more than two centuries.

The party — the “Inaugural Soiree: 260 years in the making”— will kick off at 5 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m. That’s the theme for Tuesday’s grand opening for the museum and local music venue, located in the old Radio Shack building, 525 W. Oakland Ave., in Johnson City.

When you walk in the door, the size of the space might make one think it’s not big enough to be called a museum. But members of the Trust have taken advantage of every square inch to provide visitors with a plethora of artifacts and information about the history of Boones Creek.

Even the restrooms have wall hangings and bits of history to see and read about.

The museum is staffed by volunteers and open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. When the museum closes on Saturday night, however, is when visitors can hear local bluegrass bands and play along after the scheduled performance.
