Opponents of Ballad Health’s planned changes to pediatric and trauma services are planning to hold a rally in Kingsport on Saturday.

Called “Rally for the Valley,” the event will start at 4:30 p.m. at the Kingsport Farmer’s Market, according to a Facebook event listing. As of noon Friday, 54 people have confirmed their attendance.

In November, Ballad Health announced plans to change Holston Valley Medical Center’s trauma center status from Level 1 to Level 3, while maintaining Johnson City Medical Center’s Level 1 status as part of the consolidation of the former Mountain States Health Alliance and Wellmont Health System.

Those changes were already pre-approved by the Tennessee Department of Health, but Ballad officials also announced plans to consolidate Holston Valley Medical Center’s Level 3 NICU services into Johnson City Medical Center, and open new pediatric emergency rooms in Kingsport and Bristol.
