East Tennessee State’s defense was expected to be good this season, and for the second month in a row the Bucs have the Southern Conference’s defensive player of the month.

Tyree Robinson earned the award for October, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Robinson intercepted four passes and made 30 tackles. He also recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

Robinson was chosen as the SoCon’s defensive player of the week and STATS FCS national defensive player of the week for his performance against The Citadel. In that game, he had two interceptions — returning one for a touchdown — and eight tackles.

ETSU linebacker Jared Folk won the monthly honor for September. It had been 13 years since the same school produced back-to-back SoCon defensive players of the month.

The Bucs (8-2 overall, 6-1 SoCon) have already clinched at least a share of the conference championship. After a bye week, they close the regular season at home Nov. 17 against Samford.
