It has been a tremendous season for David Crockett’s Cade Larkins.

The junior quarterback was chosen Thursday as a Class 5A semifinalist for the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards.

Also chosen as semifinalists in Class 5A were Oak Ridge’s Herbert Booker, Franklin Page’s Michael Burdock, Knox Fulton’s Deshawn Page, and Shelbyville’s Grayson Tramel.

Larkins has passed for 3,172 yards this season while leading the Pioneers to a record of 10-0. He also has 36 touchdown passes.

Three finalists will be announced on Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. (EST) by Mike Keith on the Titans’ website at www.titansonline.com. Those finalists will be invited to attend the awards luncheon at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on Nov. 25, where the winner will be announced.

A Mr. Football winner will be chosen for each of the six public-school classifications, along with three private-school divisions. There will also be a kicker of the year honored from among all classifications.

A committee of statewide sports writers selected winners based on performance in the 2018 regular season. Academics and character were also taken into consideration. High school head coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists.

“We are very excited and appreciative about being involved with the Tennessee Titans for the 12th consecutive year,” said Bernard Childress, executive director of the TSSAA. “They have helped make the recognition of these 50 student-athletes, their families, and schools possible.”

This is the 34th year the Mr. Football Awards have been presented to Tennessee’s best high school football players. A Mr. Football trophy will be presented to the winners of each category while a Mr. Football plaque will be presented to the other two finalists in each category. The other semifinalists will each receive a certificate.
