ERWIN — The Erwin Farmers Market will begin a new season Tuesday night, July 2, in the courthouse parking lot downtown.

Now in its fourth season, the evening market will once again feature fresh produce and home grown, home canned and home cooked food products from around the region and a mini-festival with local craft vendors, a rotation of some of the Tri-Cities most popular food trucks and fun family activities including in weekly bike ride through downtown Erwin.

To help make fresh produce more accessible to low-income food shoppers, the market vendors will once again be accepting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. And for the first time this year, the market will be working in partnership with the Unicoi Unites: a Healthier Tennessee Communities initiative to encourage more active lifestyles and community fitness.

Starting Monday, June 24, anyone who participates in any of three specified outdoors activities will be eligible for a $3 voucher toward the purchase of any edible merchandise at the Tuesday morning Farmers Market in Unicoi or the Tuesday evening market in Erwin.

The qualifying activities include walking a mile on either the Erwin Linear Trail or Pinnacle Fire Tower Trail in Unicoi, or participation in the weekly bike ride through downtown Erwin to begin every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Erwin Outdoor Supply store on Union Street, where bike rentals will be available.

“Farmers Market Money” information and participation forms will be available in information tubes posted on the trails and at the conclusion of every bike ride. The program will be limited to one farmers market voucher per person per week.
