Fire heavily damaged the Haven of Mercy Thrift Store, 218 N. Broadway St., Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported just after 7 a.m. Johnson City Fire Department District Chief Mark Beasley said firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the back side of the building and from the eves throughout the building.

“We were able to mitigate the fire pretty quickly,” Beasley said, adding that fire officials had not determined a cause and no injuries had been reported. “The damage on the inside — we are still assessing the actual structural damage, but there is many items that appear to be donations from the type of business it is — donations were burned up in the back side.”
