ELIZABETHTON — The Carter County Rescue Squad is celebrating its 70th birthday with a reunion for all of the many volunteers who have served in its ranks throughout its history.

The reunion is going to be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Carter County Rescue Squad Building, 105 Iodent Way in the Watauga Industrial Park. Director Terry Arnold and the other current members are proud of the organization and its capabilities, but want to thank those who came before them and show them how much the Rescue Squad has improved.

“None of this would have been possible without their sacrifice,” Arnold said.

One problem the squad is having in planning the reunion is reaching some of the former members.

“There aren’t any phone books anymore,” said Steve Murray, battalion chief of the Elizabethton Fire Department.

The squad members are hoping that the volunteers will contact the station for further details and to let the squad know how many to plan for. Volunteers may RSVP by calling the squad at 542-8421 or call Murray at 342-8373.

Arnold said he wished the squad could have sent a personal invitation to every volunteer, but he hopes all will get the word and be able to attend. Food and drinks will be available. In extending the invitation, the squad members urged the volunteers to “please come and get reacquainted with us and each other.”
