The Brights Zoo Facebook page posted Friday morning that a fire broke out at about 3 a.m. The sheriff’s office confirmed the fire began in a barn next to the zoo’s giraffe barn. Deputies were not dispatched to the scene, but local volunteer fire departments were.
Brights’ Facebook post stated that the Limestone, Sulphur Springs and Nolichuckey volunteer fire departments responded to the fire.
A zoo representative who answered the phone declined to make an official comment, but said zoo owner David Bright would be making an official statement on the zoo’s Facebook page later in the day.
Brights is a privately owned zoo in western Washington County on U.S. Highway 11E north of Washington College.
